NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — Authorities in Virginia have recovered and identified the bodies of two people who died in a boating accident on the James River.

WAVY-TV reports that the bodies were recovered Monday morning in the water near Newport News.

Virginia Marine Resources Commission spokeswoman Ellen Bolen identified them as Leroy Parker and Robert Coleman. They were both from Emporia, Virginia.

The men were on a boat that collided with an oyster barge on Saturday. The barge was being pushed by a tug and headed for an oyster bed near the James River Bridge when the collision occurred.

Good Samaritans rescued four of the recreational boaters, but two went missing. Coast Guard boats and helicopters as well as the Navy and local officials scoured the water before calling off the search on Sunday.
