Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Department of General Services says Capitol Square will be closed January 14th through at least January 21st.  The General Assembly is meeting elsewhere or online, and the closure is to deal with any potential unrest tied to the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.

DGS says they are also are going to be putting up additional fencing, and further fortifying buildings in and around the Square.  Richmond Police also says they will be closing streets around the Square Sunday and Monday.

The FBI has warned of potential armed protests at state capitols around the country.  Social media chatter points to those taking place Sunday.  Monday is traditionally "Lobby Day" at the Capitol but all permits have been denied.  The Virginia Citizens Defense League is planning a car caravan to Richmond, but it is not clear how the road closures will impact that plan.
