WASHINGTON (AP) — A former Donald Trump campaign aide cooperating with the special counsel's Russia investigation is asking a federal judge to let him off GPS monitoring while he's awaiting sentencing.

A lawyer for Rick Gates says in a court filing that Gates has been a "model cooperating witness" for special counsel Robert Mueller and other federal investigators. Attorney Thomas Green also says Gates' cooperation sessions since his guilty plea this year have been "numerous" and continue "to this day."

Gates is a longtime protege of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. Gates served in a senior campaign role and later worked for Trump's inauguration committee.

Green is also asking U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson to remove Gates' curfew and allow him to travel to a wider area.
