Fiery 'aviation' crash in residential area near William and Ma

Williamsburg, VA _  Virginia State Police have issued the following statement:

At 4:42 p.m., Sunday (July 8), Virginia State Police responded to a 911 call about an aircraft crashing into a residential structure in Williamsburg. The crash occurred in the 1100 block of Settlement Drive. The impact of the crash caused a fire within the townhouse structure. 


At this time, state police with the assistance of Williamsburg Police are still assessing the scene to determine what injuries, if any, have occurred and to identify the type of aircraft.


The FAA and NTSB have been notified and are responding to the scene.




Emergency responders in Williamsburg are on scene where a helicopter has apparently crashed into a residential area near the College of William and Mary.  The campus issued the following tweet:

"TribeAlert: There has been an aviation incident in the residential area near Dillard Complex. Avoid the area. WMPD will follow up if campus impacts are eminent."

The crash occurred near the Dillard Complex off Ironbound Road.
