Henrico Produce Truck Crash

Tractor-trailer was hauling thousands of pounds of tomatoes and peppers

Henrico, VA _  Virginia State Police say they responded to a single vehicle crash Saturday at approximately 6:23 a.m at I-295 north to I-64 east (Exit 53 B) in Henrico County.

 

The Trooper's preliminary investigation reveals that Juan Martin, 63, of Orlando, FL., was driving a 2016 Freightliner tractor hauling several thousand pounds of produce consisting of tomatoes and peppers.  Martin attempted to take the I-64 east exit and ran off road left and the weight of the load forced the tractor and trailer to overturn.  

 

Martin and a passenger were transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

 

The Department of Agriculture and all other necessary personnel have been contacted to assist in the cleanup process that will take and extended amount of time.  

 

Speed is being considered a factor in the crash.  Martin was charged with Reckless driving; failure to maintain control. 

 

Crash remains under investigation.
