House Starts 51-49

Fourth Circuit Denies Request To Block Stafford Delegate

Richmond, VA ( - The House of Delegates has started the 2018 session with a 51-49 majority, this after the Richmond Federal Appeals Court declined a request to not seat Stafford Republican Bob Thomas.  Thomas won a tight election over Democratic challenger Joshua Cole, in an election in which nearly 150 voters received the wrong ballot.  Thomas' margin was 73 votes after a recount.

Republicans have also seating Republican David Yancey from Newport News.  Democratic challenger Shelly Simonds has conceded and will not be asking for a recount.
