How Liberal Will They Go?

Democrats Want Republicans Seat

McLEAN, Va. (AP) — The scramble among Democrats to take on Republican Barbara Comstock for a Virginia congressional seat has remained civil so far.

Six Democrats are on the ballot for the 10th Congressional District primary June 12. The winner will face Comstock, who's considered one of the most vulnerable incumbents in Congress.

Republicans including House Speaker Paul Ryan have predicted that competitive primaries will push Democratic candidates too far to the left to be viable in a general election.

So far, though, the candidates in the northern Virginia district have tried to distinguish themselves on their biographies and backgrounds rather than outflanking each other ideologically.

Democratic frontrunner Jennifer Wexton says she believes it's been a clean campaign and she feels no pressure to portray herself as the most progressive candidate.
