Amelia Firefighter Dies

Suffered Medical Emergency During Training

AMELIA COUNTY, VA – An Amelia County firefighter has died during a training exercise.  On Thursday, June 14th, Firefighter William Moore IV suffered a medical emergency and went into cardiac arrest. Firefighter Moore was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

         William (Billy) Henry Moore IV, age 48, had been a member of the Amelia County Volunteer Fire Department for almost 2 ½ years. Amelia County Company #1 Fire Chief Justin Wargofcak states that, “Billy has been a dedicated member of our department for the past few years. He was hard-working and could be found working on projects around the firehouse several days a week. Billy, also, answered a lot of emergency calls and was one of the top responders for our company. When he began volunteering a few years ago, he immediately became part of the team and we will miss him greatly!” 

         A Funeral Service is set for 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday June 19, at the Amelia County High School with burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mannboro.
