Charter Bus Loses Tires, Triggers Accident Near Willis Road

March 21, 2019 - 4:25 pm

Richmond, Va. ( --  State Police say a charter bus driver has been charged with having defective equipment, after the bus lost two rear tires, triggering an accident with a trailing tractor-trailer.  State Police say at approximately, 3:44 a.m., troopers responded to a single vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer at northbound I-95, north of Willis Road (Exit 64).

The trooper's investigation found a Panda passenger bus lost both rear tires in the center lane of travel on northbound I-95.  A tractor hauling a trailer was traveling northbound struck the tires, lost control, and hit the jersey wall, catching on fire.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to the hospital for treatment of serious, but non life-threatening injuries.  There are no other injuries reported.

A second crash occurred on the southbound side of I-95 when a tractor trailer was slowing down due to debris from the crash on northbound side and was struck by another vehicle in the rear.

This is the second bus-realted accident on I-95 in the area this week.  Yui Man Chow, 40, faces involuntary manslaughter charges after two people died in a bus accident in Prince George County Monday.
