Arrests in Nine-Year Old's Death

Markiya Dickson Shot And Killed Over Memorial Day Weekend

Richmond, Va. ( - After five months, Richmond Police say they have finally arrested two suspects in the shooting death of nine-year old Markiya Dickson in Carter Jones Park.  Dickson was attending a cookout in the park Memoiral Day weekend when police say shooting erupted near the basketball court, and she was struck and killed.  A second child was injured.

Police have identified the suspects.  They are:

·         Jermaine Davis, 21, 4500 block of Millenbeck Road (arrested)

·         Quinshawn Betts, 18, 4500 block of Millenbeck Road (arrested)

·         Jesus Turner, 20, Chesterfield (at large)


The two individuals taken into custody with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, Davis and Betts, have each been charged with:


·         Murder,

·         Two counts of Malicious Wounding 

·         Three counts of the Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony


Turner will be served with all six outstanding felony indictments when he is apprehended.

Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney says while the arrests are important, they are not a cause for celebration, given the death of the young girl.
