Herring Announces Abuse Investigation

Taking A Deep Look Into Virginia's Catholic Dioceses

October 24, 2018 - 1:34 pm

Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -  Attorney General Mark Herring has announced that his office has an ongoing investigation into possible sexual abuse within Virginia's two Catholic Diocese.  Herring says the investigation began after a grand jury in Pennsylvania issued a report, finding that 300 priests had abused children over decades, and that church leaders covered up the abuse.

The Attorney General did not provide many details into the investigation.  However, he did say he was going public now because he needs to public's help in providing information.  To that end, the office has set up a hotline at 1-833-454-9064 to take reports.

Herring says the two Catholic diocese (Arlington and Richmond) have, so far, been cooperative.
