(RICHMOND, Va. - wrva.com) - Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital was placed on lockdown Wednesday following a what authorities call a viable threat of a possible future shooting on the campus.

"Safety and high quality patient care is of the utmost importance to Bon Secours," a hospital spokesperson says in a statement. "By placing the hospital on lockdown, the safety of the patients, medical staff and essential personnel has been secured."

Bon Secours immediately contacted Richmond City Police upon receipt of the threat, and hospital security and administration are working closely with Richmond City Police to bring this matter to a safe conclusion. All visitors, hospital volunteers and non-essential personnel have safely left the campus until further notice.

The adjacent Bon Secours Sarah Garland Jones Center for Healthy Living is part of the Richmond Community Hospital campus and all lockdown procedures apply equally to that facility, its personnel and visitors.
