Richmond, VA _  Hundreds of protesters gathered at Richmond's Byrd Park Tuesday evening to show solidarity with Native Americans.  The protest was sponsored by The Richmond Indigenous Society, along with Black Lives Matter.

Following a march along Arthur Ashe Boulevard through the Museum District, some protesters return to the park with rope and pulled down the Christopher Columbus statue next to the tennis courts.  The protesters then hauled the statue to Fountain Lake whee they tossed it in.  Witnesses say a helicopter flew overhead, but there was no other police visibility at the time.

The statue was dedicated in 1927 according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
