Chesterfield Police Officer Wounded

Chesterfield County, VA _  Chesterfield County Police are searching for a suspect who shot and wounded a police officer during a Wednesday night traffic stop.

Poice say they were called to the 5400 block of Remuda Court around 8:45 p.m. for a report of a shooting.  Police spotted a suspicious vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.  Officers say a passenger got out of the vehicle and fired at police hitting one officer in the leg, then took off running.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene, and was taken into custody without incident.  The officer's injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

Police are asking residents in the area to remain inside, and for anyone who may have information to give them a call.
