Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Ralph Northam is recommending Virginians use masks or face coverings to limit the spread of coronavirus while out in public.  Northam, a doctor, stresses this will not completely prevent spread, but can reduce it.

Northam also announced the Commonwealth had signed a $27 million contract to get protective equipment for health care workers.  The PPE should arrive this weekend and be sent out.  Public Safety Secretary Brian Moran says they went into the market to buy the equipment after getting very little of what they requested from the federal government.

Currently, Virginia stands at 54 coronavirus deaths, according to Monday morning's Department of Health numbers.  However, that number is likely behind reality.  Henrico County's Canterbury Rehab is reporting 28 deaths on their own, with eight additional in the last two days.
