D-Day Remembered

Event Held At National Memorial in Bedford

June 06, 2019 - 12:38 pm

Bedford, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Rememberance ceremonies were held at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford on this, the 75th anniversary of the invasion that liberated Europe.  Bedford is the home of the memorial because it suffered more losses per capita on D-Day than any other location.

Both Senator Mark Warner (D) and Vice-President Mike Pence (R) spoke at the ceremonies.  Warner said those who fought and died on D-day should be remembered "long after we are gone."

Warner also pointed out Virginia is still producing heroes today, pointing specifically to Keith Cox, who protected several co-workers during the Virginia Beach massacre before losing his own life.
