Dinwiddie Authorities Investigating Murder

Homicide unsettling to quiet, rural community

(DINWIDDIE, Va. - wrva.com) - The Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide, the first in the rural county in several years.

It happened around 3 a.m. Wednesday. Major William Knott with the sheriff's office says a motorist reported seeing a man lying in the roadway on Boydton Plank Road near the intersection of Richie Avenue. Knot says responding Deputies discovered 47-year-old Umar Abdus Salaam of Petersburg suffering from a gunshot wound. Salaam was transported to Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
