Man Running From Chesterfield Police Suffers Life-Threatening Injuiries

Chesterfield, VA (wrva.com) - Chesterfield Police say a man, who sped off from a traffic stop, has suffered life-threatening injuires after he was struck by a car on I-95.  Shortly before 1 p.m. today, a Chesterfield Police officer stopped a vehicle for speeding on southbound Chippenham Parkway near the interchange with Jefferson Davis Highway. The officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and attempted to detain the driver. At that point, the driver fled.

Police say the pursuit eventually reached I-95 North.  While on I-95 north, the suspect vehicle struck another vehicle. The suspect’s vehicle, which was damaged, came to a stop on the right shoulder. Police says the driver then exited the suspect vehicle, ran across the northbound lanes of I-95, crossed the barrier, and ran onto southbound I-95, where he was struck by a southbound vehicle. The driver was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. A female passenger in the vehicle was not injured and refused rescue.

The investigation is ongoing.
