Richmond, VA _ Governor Ralph Northam has signed a proclamation calling the members of the Virginia General Assembly into special session on August 30th for the purpose of redrawing districts of the Virginia House of Delegates.

The Governor 's action follows a ruling by a 3-Judge panel of the U.S. Eastern District that 11 districts were gerrymandered in a way that dilutes African American voting strength.  The judges gave lawmakers until October 30th, to redraw the districts.

House of Delegates Speaker Kirk Cox responds that lawmakers will return for the special session, but republicans will continue with their request that the court stay the ruling until they can appeal it to the U.S. Supreme Court.
