Richmond, VA _  Richmond Police say one person was arrested and multiple people detained following a confrontation at the Lee Monument early Friday.

A police spokesman says protesters at the monument for another night of demonstrations had gotten off of bicycles in the travel lanes of Robert E. Lee Circle when three pickup trucks arrived.  The spokesman says words were exchanged between the two groups then one truck sped off.  Witnesses on social media say a second truck hit one of the bicycles while leaving the area.  Footage posted to social media shows police officers parked just off of the circle.

The Richmond-Times Dispatch reports  officers pursued the trucks, stopping one in the 2700 block of Hanover Avenue, the second on the Huguenot Bridge, and the third in the 6500 block of Three Chopt Road.

The police spokesman says three assault-style rifles and one handgun were seized during the traffic stops.  Police also found ammunition and body armor. One person was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and police say more charges may be pending.  The spokesman says none of those detained had Richmond addresses.
