Mechanicsville, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - On a tight, 4-3 vote, Hanover County's School Board voted to rename Lee-Davis High School and Stonewall Jackson Middle.  Just two years ago, the board had voted to retain the names, and in May, a federal court dismissed a lawsuit by the NAACP looking to force the change.

A committee will now be formed to come up with new names.  The school communities will then determine the mascots, as the current Confederates/Rebels mascots will not be retained.

Board member Sterling Daniel, who says his family goes back centuries in Virginia, says efforts would be better spent look to heal divisions in the district, than working to retain the names.  No new names have been suggested as of yet.
