UPDATE: One Dead In Chopper Crash

One death confirmed in Williamsburg chopper crash as search continues

At 4:42 p.m., Sunday (July 8), Virginia State Police responded to a 911 call about an aircraft crashing into a residential structure in Williamsburg, Va. The crash occurred in the 1100 block of Settlement Drive. 


State police has confirmed that a helicopter crashed into a residential structure in the Bristol Commons complex. The impact of the crash caused the residential structure to catch fire.


At this stage of the search and recovery efforts ongoing at the scene, there is one confirmed fatality within the residential structure. Federal, state and local police, with the assistance of the Williamsburg Fire Department, are working to locate and identify the pilot of the helicopter. 


The FAA and NTSB have been notified and are responding to the scene.


The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
