"March on the Mansion" Pushing Northam to Resign

Groups invite Virginians of all races, religions and political beliefs to join

February 15, 2019 - 4:50 pm

(Richmond, VA - - Labelling it a unity rally to bring all Virginians together - black, white, young, old, Christian, Jewish, liberal and conservative - two groups are organizing a rally and "March on the Mansion" next Saturday, Feb. 23, to call for Governor Ralph Northam to resign.

The Douglas Leadership Institute and the Southern Leadership Conference of Virginia say they believe Governor Northam has proven himself unfit because of a racist photo from his medical school yearbook and his comments suggesting he supports and advocates for infanticide.

"These two acts underscore Northam's complete lack of respect for human dignity, and he must resign," the two organziations said in a join statment.

One of the organizers and event speakers, Rev. Dean Nelson of DLI, says they believe most Virginians are opposed to this kind of behavior and can unite for good. He adds this will be a peaceful rally, but one with purpose.

Those in attendance will gather at the steps of the State Capitol at 11:30 a.m., then march to the Executive Mansion, where the governor lives.

Nelson says if the governor were to emerge from the mansion while they are there, they will pray for him and ask him to step down so that Virginia can heal, get back to business and have real leadership not embroiled in choas. For details on the rally, visit
