Brat, Spanberger In Tight Race

Monmouth Says Race Anywhere From Tie To Slight Spanberger Lead

Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A new poll from Monmouth University (NJ) finds a very tight race in the Seventh Congressional District.  Using historical models, Monmouth finds the race tied 47%-47%.  If a possible democratic surge is factored in, somewhere close to what was seen with the Governor's race last year, Abigail Spanberger (D) leads Congressman Dave Brat (R) by three.

Monmouth University Poll Director Patrick Murray says they also found 13% of Republican voters willing to cross party lines and vote for Spanberger.  Brat does not benefit from much if any Democratic crossover.

Brat has been in Congress since 2014.  He defeated then-House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the primary that year.
