Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- Richmond's new Police Chief, Gerald Smith, says there will be an independent review of their actions during the recent protests in Richmond (which are still ongoing).  However, Smith cannot a provide a timeline for the review because many of the companies that would handle it are contracted to do reviews elsewhere right now.

Smith held a press conference Monday afternoon in which he took questions from reporters for an hour.  Smith told reporters he does not believe in "handling" the protests, but rather, dealing with those who may be using the protests as cover for other actions.

Smith also says he supports having a civilian review board with subpoena power, saying it can help officers as well.
