Chesterfield County, VA _  Chesterfield Fire Lieutenant Jason Elmore says there were no injuries today when an explosion and two-alarm fire at a meat warehouse in the county.

Crews were called 5:40 a.m. to Fiorucci Foods in the 1800 block of Ruffin Mill Road for a report of a fire.   They arrived to find all of the employees evacuated and smoke coming from the roof.

Elmore says the Facilities Manager informed them there had been a fire in a boiler room and an explosion as well.  He says the sprinkler system put the fire out quickly, but a second alarm was called due to the thick smoke.

It took crews several hours to remove the smoke from the building, but Elmore says the plant will not be operational again until the compressor is replaced.

Elmore says the explosion was so powerful that it blew open the blast doors on the roof of the building over the boiler room, damaging it, but adds that is exactly what those doors were designed to do.

They have not yet determined whether an explosion set off the fire, or a fire preceded the explosion.
