Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- Governor Ralph Northam has made it official:  He is ordering the Department of General Services to remove the Lee Statue from its pedestal, and for it to be placed in a warehouse.  Northam says the Administration will be talking with contractors in the coming weeks to have the bronze statue removed.  It is the only monument on State Property, and has been up since 1890.

A number of people went to the monument Thursday morning to take pictures.  All those interviewed favored bringing down the monument, one calling it a symbol of oppression.  They also called it a beginning, not an end, in the fight for equality.

It is not exactly clear exactly when the statue will come down or what will replace it.
