Norfolk, Va. ( - The Pamunkey Indian Tribe confirms it is negotiating with the City of Norfolk to buy land next to the Harbour Park Baseball Satadium to build a casino and resort.  It would be the first true casino in Virginia if approved by the Federal Government.

The tribe recently just purchased a large amount of land in New Kent County, but a tribe spokesman says they never said a casino would be going in that spot.  Spokesman Jay Smith says the land could be used for a number of things, including a casino, but it also could end up being, for example, a senior living facility.

The Pamunkey tribe recently gained federal recognition.   Colonial Downs is also setting up casino-like locations around the Commonwealth, including in Richmond, starting next year.
