Richmond Police Update Investigation In Killing Of Nine-Year Old

Have Minimal Suspect Descriptions

Richmond, Va. ( - Richmond Police have released limited suspect desciption in the killing of nine-year old Markiya Dickson.  Dickson was shot and killed over Memorial Day Weekend in Carter-Jones Park, while she was attending a cookout.  An 11-year old boy was also wounded.

Police say three African-American men were seen with handguns running away from the park.  Their descriptions are as follows:

  • Suspect 1: A young black male who was seen with no shirt on and wearing a white towel or T-shirt on his head. He is believed to have braids that are shoulder length.
  • Suspect 2: A young black male with a medium build and short cropped hair. He was seen wearing blue shirt and grey or dark colored pants.
  • Suspect 3: A young black male wearing dark clothing.

Police say the shooting occured near the basketball courts in the park.  They do not actually have any eyewitnesses to the shooting itself.  Dickson and the boy were in another area of the park at a cookout.  There were also off-duty Richmond Police officers at the cookout, but they did not witness the shooting as well.
