Richmond, Va. ( - More than a year before she'd even face a primary or a convention, Chesterfield Republican Senator Amanda Chase says she's running for Governor.  The controversial Senator says her top issue will be gun rights, and if she doesn't win the nomination, she plans to run as an independent.

Chase just won re-election to the Senate last November.  She has managed to anger both Republicans and Democrats in the past year, and was threatened with rules violations during this session for accusing Democrats of treason for supporting gun control bills.  Chase is not working with the GOP Caucus in the Senate because of a dispute over leadership, and was kicked out of the Chesterfield GOP for supporting candidates other than the party's choice.

Last spring, she also got into an altercation with a Capitol Police Officer over a parking space.

Chase is the first Republican in the Governor's race so far.
