Richmond, VA (wrva.com) - A new Virginia Commonwealth University poll shows Democratic Senator Tim Kaine leading Republican challanger Corey Stewart by 23 points, 49% to 26%.  The poll showed Kaine winning in all areas of the Commonwealth, with the race the tightest in south-central Virginia.

Center for Public Policy Director Robyn McDougle says twenty percent of voters remain undecided.  However, she believes Kaine's lead is fairly solid, given both candidates have strong name recognition.  Stewart ran for the GOP nomination for governor last year.

The poll, which was conducted between July 10 and July 30, also found a bare majority (51%) of Virginia voters would like to see Democrats take control of Congress.  VCU did not poll individual congressional races.
