Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Richmond-area can expect severe weather this afternoon and evening, with the potential for very strong winds, heavy rain, flash flooding and an outside chance at hail and tornadoes.  The greatest time of concern is this evening, although there have already been tornado warnings, and at least one confirmed tornado in Virginia already.

NBC12.com Meteorologist Megan Wise says the the storms will actually be more organized in the evening, between 7pm and midnight.  The storms should move out by around 2am, although some showers may linger into Saturday morning.

There has already been one confirmed tornado near Smith Mountain Lake.

Dominon Energy says it is monitoring the storms.  They will send crews out as soon as it is safe to do so to restore power.  They are asking customers to report any outages, and stay away from downed power lines.
