Shirtless & Shoeless Man Drives Car Onto Virginia State Capitol Grounds

Suspect ignores commands to stop

Richmond, VA (WRVA) -

A man improperly drove a Honda Accord onto the grounds of the Virginia State Capitol on Tuesday11-27.  

Capitol police spokesperson Joe Macenka says the man ignored the first Capitol Police Officer who tried to get him to stop. He drove the Accord at a high rate of speed toward the Governor’s Mansion.

The gate was closed, an officer at the gate ordered him to stop. The man turned the car around and drove at a high rate of speed to the South Portico where he stopped the Honda.

The man jumped out of the car, he was both shirtless and shoeless only wearing pants, and started running.

The suspect ran across Bank St where he was arrested near the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Lucy the Capitol Police lab, who is trained in narcotic and explosive detection, sniffed the car; but, she did not alert to any contraband.

The Capitol Grounds were never closed and no one was harmed. The car’s driver is facing multiple charges
