Closes Route 60 At Henrico/New Kent Line

NEW KENT CO., Va. (Newradiowrva.com) -  Route 60 at the New Kent/Henrico County line remains closed this evening after a dump truck nearly went off the bridge over the Chickahominy River.  State Police say at approximately 2:51 p.m., troopers responded to a single vehicle crash involving a dump truck on the Chickahominy River Bridge. 

 

The trooper's preliminary investigation reveals that a 2018 Western Star dump truck driven by, Andrew Gurley, 20 of Charles City, Va., was traveling eastbound Route 60 with the bed of the truck raised.  The truck preceded in the right lane across the Chickahominy River Bridge overturning on the passenger side with the bed of the truck leaning over the jersey wall.  The entire load of approximately 23,000 pounds of agriculture lime was lost.  In additon, there are also some power line damage on the Henrico side of the bridge.    

 

Gurley was transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.  

 

The Department of Environmental Quality and Virginia Dominion Power have been notified.  

 

New Kent Sheriff's Office, New Kent Fire and Rescue, Henrico Police Department, and VDOT are all assisting at the scene of the crash with road closure, which will remain for an extended period of time.  

 

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending at this time.
