November 05, 2018 - 4:18 pm

Richmond, Va. ( - State Police say a trooper suffered minor injuries this morning after being struck by a driver with a suspended license along I-295.  The accident occurred shortly after 6:30 am, not far from the Meadowbridge Road exit on I-295 north.

State police says the trooper was seated in his 2016 Ford Taurus, which was parked on the left shoulder with its lights activated, waiting for the wrecker to arrive on scene of a single vehicle accident. A 2005 Infiniti SUV traveling north on I-295 ran off the left side of the interstate and struck the rear of the patrol car. The impact of that crash caused the SUV to spin around and strike the patrol car a second time. The impact of the crashes also spun the patrol car around on the shoulder.

The driver of the SUV, Markeveis L. Barksdale, 25, of Henrico, Va., refused medical treatment at the scene.

State police charged Barksdale for having defective equipment on his vehicle as the investigation determined that the car hydroplaned because of the poor condition of the SUV's tires. Barksdale was also charged with driving on a suspended license - 5th offense.
