Richmond, VA (newsradio 1140.com) - UPDATE: A preliminary investigation by the National Weather Service finds the deadly tornado in Midlothian may have been an EF2 with winds of 125 mph.

At least one person was killed and another injured as a tornado tore through a building supply business in Chesterfield Monday afternoon as the remnants of Hurricane Florence moved north.  Lt. Jason Elmore of Chesterfield Fire & EMS says the manager of Old Dominion Floor Co. on Speeks Drive near Hull Street Road told them there were 15 employees in the building when the tornado hit around 3 pm.  The National Weather Service issued 19 tornado warnings for Central Virginia, and will be surveying the damage today to determine how many tornadoes there were.

About 11,000 customers lost their electricity because of the storm according to Dominion Energy.  As of 10 am that was down to about 2700.

Several school systems are on a two hour delay Tuesday, including Richmond and Chesterfield, because of storm issues.  Students at a number of schools were kept late to keep them safe as the intense storm pounded the area.
