Victim Identified, Arrest Made in Richmond Death

Murder Happened Early New Year's Day Morning

(RICHMOND, Va.) -- Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim from a fatal shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning on North Avenue as 28 year old La-Tiyah Hood.

Just after midnight on New Year's Day, officers were called to the 2500 block of North Avenue for the report of a shooting. Police found Hood suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was transported by private vehicle to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Officers and detectives have charged 25 year old Mateen Johnson with involuntary manslaughter.
