Unemployment Below Three Percent

However, Due In Part To People Leaving Workforce

Richmond, Va.  (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia's unemployment rate has dropped below three percent.  The rate in September fell to 2.9%, the lowest level seen since June 2007.

However, the decrease was not completely due to increasing jobs, and people filling those positions.  The Virginia Employment Commission says 3,400 people also left the workforce.  The number could be due, in part, to students returning to school.

Virginia ranks first in the Southeast, and tied for eighth nationally.  The industry that saw the biggest growth was leisure and hospital, which may be due to conferences in the Washington, D.C. region.
