New Kent, Va. ( -  A crowd of about 500 people became the first people to win and lose money at Virginia's first "casino."  Rosie's Gaming Emporium opened Tuesday at Colonial Downs, the horse racing track that has been shuttered in 2014.  The "casino" will allow for horse racing to return to the track later this year.

The slots are not real slot machines, but based on historical horse races.  The Pamunkey Tribe is attempting to use its federal recoginition to eventually set up a casino, possibly in Norfolk, and the General Assembly is studying the potential of allowing full casino gambling.

A Rosie's is also planned for Richmond, just off the Chippenham Parkway, later this summer.

Many of the 500 were from New Kent, or drove in from Richmond.  They said they would rather spend their money here, than have to travel to casinos in Delaware, West Virginia, or Maryland.
