Water Contaminated in Louisa

County Schools Closed Friday

Louisa, VA (Newsradio 1140wrva.com) -- A mandatory evacuation order was been lifted for an area around a shopping center in the town of Louisa because of a gas leak that contaminated the municipal water supply. About 1,000 addresses were affected in the area of the Glen Marye shopping center. 

County schools are closed today, and county offices are opening late at 11 am.  A "Do Not Use" the water order is still in place until futher notice. The water system has been flushed and restarted. The town is waiting for a test by state officials before giving an "all clear" notice. 

County officials say the first call about a problem started Thursday morning, and levels of the unknown gas almost rose to combustible levels.  Anyone with questions can call the Emergency Operations Center at 540.967.3496.
