Scandals Creating Some Drag

According To New Christopher Newport University Poll

Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A new Christopher Newport University/Wason Center for Public Policy Poll finds the blackface and sexual assault scandals are creating a drag for Virginia Democrats.  The poll was in the field from March 11 through the end of March, and had a margin of error of three percent.

Christopher Newport University Political Expert Quentin Kidd says they found that on a generic ballot, Democrats only had a four-point advantage.  Kidd says given recent Democratic wins in the state (all statewide seats since 2009, gains in the House of Delegates and Congress), that margin would have been expected to be larger.  The poll also found that Governor Ralph Northam's approval rating was lower the President Trump's approval rating (40% v. 44%).  President Trump did not win Virginia in 2016.

The entire General Assembly is up for election this November.
