Richmond, VA. (WRVA) - A New Zealand man finds himself in the hospital and in the custody of police. The Goochland Sheriff’s Office states that 25 year old Troy Skinner (from New Zealand) tried to break into a home in Goochland Friday(6/22/18) afternoon. The home on Steeplechase Parkway was occupied by a woman and her 2 daughters. Skinner tried to get in through a basement door.  The woman heard the commotion and advised him that she was calling police and that she was armed with a gun.

The man then went onto the homes deck, took a concrete landscape stone and broke glass on a door. The woman told the man repeatedly that she was going to shot.  The New Zealander reached his hand through the broken glass in an effort to unlatch the door, that’s when the woman opened fire. The woman pulled the trigger on a .22 caliber handgun twice, striking the man in the neck. Skinner was taken to VCU for treatment. The mother and her two daughters were not harmed. Skinner just arrived in the USA on Wednesday, June 20th. He flew into the Los Angeles International Airport.  No word on why he was in Goochland. English is the primary language spoken in New Zealand.
