Richmond, VA _  The VCU Police Department has made an arrest in connection to two recent assaults on the Monroe Park Campus.  Police Chief John Venuti has issued the following statement:

"After receiving reports of assaults from Sept. 21 and Sept. 22, we issued the advisory, along with a photo and video clip of the suspect, to inform you about these incidents and to ask for help identifying the suspect. Based off of tips from the community, we were able to identify one person in connection with both.

Justin A. Harvey, 26, of North Chesterfield, Va., is charged with one count of sexual battery (a misdemeanor). Harvey is not affiliated with Virginia Commonwealth University. He is currently being held without bond in the Richmond City Justice Center. The VCU Police Department is continuing its investigation.

I would like to thank everyone in the VCU community, including local media stations, who took the time to review and share the case information. It is this publicity on numerous platforms that lead to an arrest.

As a reminder to our community, the VCU Police Department takes all reports of suspicious activity, crime, assault, sexual assaults and any threatening behavior seriously. We appreciate that the survivors came forward to speak with our detectives. We truly rely on everyone to help us keep both campuses safe.

Chief John Venuti, VCU Police

Assistant Vice President for Public Safety
