Hot Car Death In Goochland

Henrico toddler dies after accidentally being left in a hot SUV

August 08, 2018 - 5:36 pm

Goochland County, VA _  A 17-month-old toddler has died after his father left him tethered to his car seat in a vehicle on a parking deck in Goochland County. The vehicle, a 2016 dark colored Acura MDS SUV, was left on the uncovered deck of a parking garage at the Capitol One campus in the West Creek Business Park.

At 12:31 Wednesday afternoon, Goochland sheriff’s dispatchers received a 911 call from the child’s mother. The mother had been contacted at 12:20 by her son’s daycare center asking her if her son was going to be dropped off.   The mother then contacted the boy’s father who had left earlier that morning with the boy in his car seat.

The father, who arrived at work at Capitol One at 9:30 am, had apparently forgotten to drop his son off at daycare and left the boy in the car.

Goochland Fire and Rescue, Goochland deputies and Capitol One security all responded to the scene and attempted to revive the unconscious boy. The boy was transported by Goochland Fire/Rescue to Henrico Doctor’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:21 pm. The medical examiner has custody of the boys’ body for autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The boy has been identified as Riaan Gondesi, DOB February 20, 2017.

This case is still under investigation. Currently, there are no charges.  That determination will be made by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office once the investigation is complete.
