Pilot Injured In Crash Named

Pilot injured in crash at chesterfield airport identified

CHESTERFIELD CO., Va. -  Virginia State Police say the pilot who was seriously injured when his small plane crashed is Jake Labellow, 69, of Midlothian, Va.


At approximately, 8:42 p.m. Tuesday, the Virginia State Police responded to a single engine plane crash at the Chesterfield County Airport on Airfield Dr.


The preliminary investigation reveals that a small single engine homemade plane, piloted by Labello was taxiing on the runway when the plane inadvertently left the ground, came back down and skidded off the runway.  The plane then overturned entrapping Labello.  


Once extricated from the plane, Labello was transported to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.  


Chesterfield Fire/EMS, Chesterfield P. D., and airport personnel assisted at the scene of the crash.  FAA was also notified of the crash. 


The crash remains under investigation.
