The family of Robert Levinson, a former FBI agent who was being held hostage in Iran, said they have been informed he has died. In a statement released Wednesday, the family said he died sometime before the coronavirus outbreak.

Levinson disappeared in 2007 while on an unauthorized CIA mission gathering intelligence. Although the nation has never admitted to having him, Levinson was believed to be the longest-held American hostage.
