California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed into law a bill that allows low-income adults under the age of 25 to receive Medicaid benefits regardless of immigration status, making California the first state to allow taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants.

The new law will reportedly cost California taxpayers $98 million to give coverage to around 90,000 people, though the state covers children under 18 years old under its Medicaid program, according to Breitbart.

The one upside could be that this law only would cover illegal immigrants with an income low enough to qualify for the program.

Many Republicans, including President Trump, blasted the plan, with the president saying "it's crazy."
