Democrats: We Are Coming For Your Guns

Still desperately trying to ride the emotional wave of a mass shooting in his home state of Texas, former Rep. Robert Francis O'Rourke reminded everyone at the Democratic debate that he wants to take guns away from law-abiding citizens.

O'Rourke reinforced his plan to implement mandatory buybacks of AR-15 and AK-47 rifles, calling each gun of that type a "potential instrument of terror."

When CNN's Anderson Cooper asked O'Rourke how he planned to get people to hand over their rifles, he responded with, "I expect my fellow Americans to follow the law. The same way we enforce any provision, any law that we have right now, we don’t go door to door to do anything to enforce the law. I expect Republicans, Democrats, gun owners, non-gun owners alike, to follow the law."

After Cooper asked what would happen if Americans do not comply with the buyback, O'Rourke said if citizens do not hand over their rifles, the government will take them from them.

"If someone does not turn an AR-15 or an AK-47, one of these weapons of war, or brings it out in public and brandishes it, in an attempt to intimidate…then that weapon will be taken from them. If they persist, there will be other consequences from law enforcement."
