According to an investigative report from the Powerline blog, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) received asylum as a child under a false name and married her brother.

The author, David Steinberg, claims that Omar is actually one of five siblings from the Elmi family from Somalia. Three of those children were granted asylum in the United Kingdom, while two were granted asylum in the United States.

He writes, "the Omar family is a second, unrelated family which was being granted asylum by the United States. The Omars allowed Ilhan, her genetic sister Sahra, and her genetic father Nur Said to use false names to apply for asylum as members of the Omar family."

He also claims Omar married her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi - who had reportedly already been granted asylum in the UK - in 2009.
