Volusia County (Florida) Sheriff Michael Chitwood announced on Sunday that his department will "pay tribute" to every fallen police officer who dies in the line of duty.

The sheriff shared the new policy on his Facebook page Sunday evening in the aftermath of two police officers from McAllen, Texas, who were killed in an ambush attack on Saturday.

"Effective immediately, when a Law Enforcement Officer is killed in the line of duty anywhere in this great country, we will wear our mourning crepes over our badges for five consecutive days," he wrote. "All Sheriff's Office installations will fly the American flag at half-staff during this mourning period."

Sheriff Chitwood joined Jeff on Wednesday to discuss his new policy and the challenges facing law enforcement officers in America today.
